Just some amazing books coming across my desk at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market for me to read (and in turn you all to buy!). Seriously 'For Good - The Church and the Future of Welfare' is a short book of 90pp that packs well above its weight and truly is a must read for all interested or involved in knowing about and practicing transformative change in welfare issues... A real book of social change issues for churches (and wider!), an essential read from @canterburypress. Next up I can honestly say that 'Blue Planet Blue God' is the book as a Christian you need to be reading alongside Attenborough's Blue Planet! This book isnt just about climate change and water rights issues, but us about the wonder, majesty, and intrinsic beauty and power that is water in all its forms and how that deep peaks to the soul of us too. Beautiful and deep book from @scm_press. Next up, Christian Alternatives have published 'Why Progressives Need God' by Clatworthy, thisis a deeply rich and readable study (that reads a little like a philosophical manifesto in some parts) on monotheism for progressives. It's a deeply interesting read, especially as we dig down deeply into what 'Monotheism' really is and means... Especially in today's culture. Another good book for personal reading but that would make a great group discussion read if you ask me! Finally one I'm taking home next... 'New World, New Church' by Hannah Steel and from @scm_press... Looking at the theology of the emerging church movement and its proponents, should be interesting and thought provoking I'd think. Now remember all these books and other really good ones like them are available from your independent Bookshops like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market and we all rely on you to buy from us to kept us real, here, and vibrant in your towns and cities so please do support us :) http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #book #books #bookshop #indiebookshop #christianbookshop #christianbooks #spirituality #faith #review #authors #publishers #buylocal #books #reading #study #theology #scmpress #canterburypress #christianalternatives #johnhunt #christian #church #lincoln

A few more brilliant new books that have come across the counter at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market for me to read from. @thebiblereadingfellowship ...Michael Mitton's Seasoned by the Seasons is fabulous, divided into the seasons the studies in it are short but deep, Intense and flavourful they are talk to very real situations in our lives, death, despair, failure, love, birth... And highlights, lowlights and celebrations in between. Lovely for an individual, good too for a group. The same for Goldsworthy's Jesus Through The Old Testament - filled with good stuff - easy diagrams, helpful key notes, concise breakdowns and correlations. Keen, insightful, easy to read and understand. Invaluable. Last up Horsfall's Facing Midlife, undated and helpful bible studies for those of us challenged with growing older, and nice and cheap with it ;) http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr http://ift.tt/1K9J1V7 Remember your local independent bookshop (like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market) is the best place to see and buy books.. Can I just say that though these books from @avemariapress via Alban Books that came across the desk here @unicorntreebks in Lincoln Central Market are a little American in style they are absolutely fantastic and fun... A good blend of modern world and faith (Black Widow and Mary Magdalene! Craft Brewing and St Benedict!) with highlights, considerations, activities and thought provoking ideas throughout. Seriously a little unusual but really good either for youth workers, hipsters, strong women, or fun folk of any type. I've certainly had fun reading them :) http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr http://ift.tt/1K9J1V7 Remember these and other goods books are available from your small and local independent Bookshops (like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market) and making your purchases via them help keeps your community vibrant and shops alive :) #book #books #bookshop #indiebookshop #christianbookshop #christianbooks #spirituality #faith #hipster

Today's reading... And can I just say I am loving Louis Giglio's new book - Goliath Must Fall. It's, as ever, a well centred easy to read book that pulls together Scripture and everyday life in an understandable and engaging way that moves the book just a little past the 'self help' genre that some books seem to fall into whilst professing to be about God... This one, it seems to me, has God and biblical wisdom at its core, with a good hit of dealing with the things that knock us down by making us face up to them and admit we are not David and just our own take on a slingshot and stone hit won't do it for us in taking out our problems - though they can be dealt with. Excellent book that I'm whizzing through and hence why later I'll really start on 'Every Job a Parable' by John Van Sloten which also looks really good from the passing dip into it I've done so far ;) Remember both these titles and more can be found and purchased at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market - please do support Independent Bookshops so we can remain a physical presence in towns and cities :) http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #book #books #bookshop #christianbookshop #bookstall #religion #reading #theology #spirituality #faith #review #christianbooks #indiebookshop #buylocal #lincoln #lincolnshire

Two very different but very good books recieved in at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market. I can honestly say I am devouring the 400+ pages of Michael Moynaugh's 'Church in Life' from @SCM_Press . It is refreshing, insightful, and affirming for all those who are building or working and worshipping in new ecclesial communities. It covers so much and talks to the heart of the subject of doing church, being church differently. I've been blown away by the chapter on 'Dissatisfaction: the vocational voyage' and entranced by the chapter 'Are they Church', and encouraged by the chapter 'Re-imaging the local church' to name just a few sections. This book is a brilliant and important contribution to understanding the new emerging church journey and place. A must read for so many people and churches I think. Looking forward to reading 'a church for the poor' next because these subjects really are key in this day and age and time. Both books are available from Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market and please do support your local community or high street independent bookshop... We need you to so very much. http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #religion #reading #theology #vocation #ministry #bookshop #book #books #christianbookshop #christianbooks #spirituality #faith #review #lincoln #indiebookshop #buylocal #reading
