Ohh two new fun #childrensbooks just in from @authentic_media across the desk of the Unicorn Tree Bookshop Boss... And I can honestly say I needed the one to help with the other ;) Yep 'God Loves Me Always' was a fab pre-read to 'Hanging Out With Jesus' as I knew exactly how to handle the happy emotions thanks to the Hippo is Happy story in 'God Loves Me Always', and the really good Read Together notes for grown-ups in it too! Also the smiley faced sticker and butterfly sticker from the book may have ended up being used to express my delight with Bob Hartman's new book too ;) 'God Loves me always' also deals with sad, scared and angry as well and is a great introduction to emotions and recognising and dealing with them with bright simple pictures, large words, and very real situations. Perfect for younger people and others. So 'Hanging Out With Jesus' by Bob Hartman really is a riot, a colourful fun romp through the gospel stories that will never let you see Jesus' Disciples (or maybe even Jesus!) in the same way again... This is a book for kids that makes the Disciples big kids and Jesus their best mate... And in so doing brings the really quite funny (but serious) stories to life. Its a fantastic read for kids on their own, and an excellent read for adults to use either with their kids or with groups. Brilliant use of type and font too, with great illustrations by Mark Beech throughout it that just carries the pace of the stories along even more. Definitely a great read for the 7+ brigade and one I'm happy to recommend. Obviously these, and other great books, can be found in Independent High Street Bookshops & Christian Bookshops like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market and we'd really love it if you could support us & them with your purchases as only through your purchases do we stay in business to share these great books with others who might not otherwise come across them ;) https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #generalbooks #childrensbooks #christianbooks #review #childrensactivities #christianbookshop #bookshop #christian #children #reading #newtitles #authors #authentic #kidsbooks

Ohh just a quick note from the Unicorn Tree Bookshop Boss to share some amazing books I am currently reading! First off the new Book from Richard Rohr 'The Universal Christ'.. It is, as expected, an entrancing deep and easy to read book that really asks you to look again at Jesus The Christ... Next up a classic, Esther De Waals, 'Celtic Way of Prayer' is just such a beautiful resource book on both prayer and cletic prayer. A rich delight with so much in it. And finally 'Liturgical Worship' by Mark Earey... May bit look or sound like something life changing, engaging and essential to read but oh my how it is! This is one not just for churches ministers or those training to be Ordinands but one for those that lead Forest Church's or just want to know more about what liturgical worship is (and isn't!), and how it has formed and grown. This book is amazing and I really do recommend it to anyone interested in or leading worship. OK that's it, as always these and many other good books like them can be found in your real bricks and mortar high Street independent Bookshops like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market, and we would really implore you to buy in the shop and not online as we really do want to stay in your towns and cities and share the book love with you! https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #generalbooks #christianbooks #review #christianbookshop #theology #spirituality #scienceandfaith #biblestudies #theologicalschool #worship #liturgy #ChurchillShow #christian #reading #CHP #spck #canterburypress

Ohh some great children's books coming across the desk of the Unicorn Tree Books Boss for review from @authentic_media :) my very favourite has to be the incredibly fun and tactile 'The Funniest Animals God Ever Made'... A really solid board book with the best long lasting and enjoyable rubber textures throughout... Armadillos, platypus, chameleon and more make this a great playful book suitable for tiny people (and their bigger sidekicks!) to enjoy. Then ' My ABC of God Loves Me' is a fantastic alphabet book, that not only takes you through the alphabet but introduces key concepts of the Christian Faith whilst doing it, in a gentle rhythmic way... A great book that would be perfect for a christening or dedication gift, as well as just for everyday use too. Finally the 'My First Memory Verse Bible' is my favourite sort of board book bevause it has a handle and is perfect for little ones to carry around with them. With each section having a memory verse that ties in to the theme of the very short bible story (that includes where to find it in the bible) this is a great little go to church board book for any little person. As always these and many other fantastic books for Children and Adults can be found at your local Independent Bookshop, like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market, and I'd really encourage you to buy from an independent community based bookshop whenever you can. http://bit.ly/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #generalbooks #childrensbooks #christianbooks #review #childrensactivities #bookreviews #bookshop #booksaremybag #bookstagram #childrensbooks #church #Christian #boardbooks

These perfectly formed NRSV gift bibles from @CambridgeUP came across my desk today at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market and asked to be reviewed. They are small but with a beautiful clear and bold print that makes them easy to read sepite the small print size. The premium leather looking one is lush and truly looks the part of a refined black leather bible and really would be an incredible and long serving serious gift for perhaps Ordinations, Confirmations or for something with a feeling of gravitas attached to it. Next up are the silver and grey editions, both with gil edges, and both very suitable for any gift giving occasion from Christenings to marriages... I particularly like the gentle sheen (almost sparkle) to the grey edition which just lifts it that little bit, but in no way moves it away from being emminently suitable as a gentleman's gift. Finally the green edition is the cheaper priced edition and to be fair more an everyday compact carrying bible than a purposeful gift edition, but despite this the print and quality hold through making it an excellent companion for everyday life, or maybe as a Sunday school or school gift edition perhaps. All in all a set of beautifully formed, and well thought out, compact and gift edition NRSV bibles from Cambridge University Press indeed. As always these, and many more good books and bibles, can be found in your local independent Bookshops like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market, and we really would encourage you to go through a small independent bookshop for your purchases as they truly rely on you to remain in business and serving the local community where they are. https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #christianbooks #christianbookshop #bibles #leatherbible #faith #Christian #cambridgeuniversitypress #bible #gift #awards #review #buylocal #independent #bookshop

Yes it's beginning to look like that time of year again here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market (and at all good Independent & Christian Bookshops elsewhere too I'm sure)! And @brfonline rarely disappoint and haven't again with some great Advent titles.. And that 'The Visual Christmas Story' is a real surprise that works for churches and unchurched, readers and non-readers too... I'll concede the images won't be to everyone's style but if you're aiming at a younger adult audience then these will work well. If like me you are into Celtic style spirituality then David Cole's 'Celtic Advent : 40 days of devotions to Christmas' is a real delight and a great follow on from his Celtic Lent book a few years ago. 40 days of course because that's how long a Celtic advent is. Finally David Kerrigan's 'Prince of Peace in a World of Wars' is the one I would seriously recommend to any grappling with the real humanitarian issues and crises of our world today... Things like Syria, Yemen, Gaza and the many other places of trouble, war and abandonment... Why? Because this is a book of hope and love, a book that leads us to Advent not dwelling on the horror, but acknowledging it and addressing it, and focusing on how we through love and action can change the world just as the Christ Child did. Just a reminder that these and many more books like them are available in real physical local and independent Bookshops near you like us at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market... Please buy them there and support your community and independent business people where you can. https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #christianbooks #christianbookshop #theology #spirituality #faith #Christmas #advent #reviews #christian #bookreviews #Lincoln #bookshop #biblestudy #devotional

Just three titles from the very many on display at the @CRT_Retreat #CRT2018 that I fe) in love with! So much say that I owe a big thanks to the folks from @ivpacademic for letting me take Ryken's, The Messiah Comes to Middle Earth, away with me to finish reading on the train home! And it was a beautiful rich read indeed with amazing theological insights blended into a lush treatise on LOTR.. Gives you an amazing excuse to reread LOTR to see this fresh interpretation play out for yourself! The Philisophy of Christian Religion from @spck_publishing was from the sections I had time to read (not much sadly it was busy!) an incredible, well reasoned and deeply satisfying philosophy of religion book.. And though I disagree with some of the authors conclusions on Thomism I can agree they were well reasoned and articulated, and though we don't agree on atomism the section on Deism made up for it... ;) Finally the Mere Science and Christian Faith one me ocer in the very first flick open all thanks to one joke about God, Time, and Pennies... And it carried on impressing with its style, looks, and topic. Think this is one id be very happy to read, use, and discuss with others. So yeah just 3 out of so many good good books! Remember these and many others can be found (or ordered!) from. Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market! Or from any good independent bricks and mortar bookshop! https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #books #book #indiebookshop #christianbooks #christianbookshop #theology #spirituality #scienceandfaith #reviews #middleearth #tolkien #philosophy #faith #reviews #publishers #reading

Ohh I might have fallen a little in love! The new Journalling and Verse-mapping Bibles from @HodderFaith are just absolutely lovely. Well bound, good sized print, helpful front cover diagram, and varied images, sheets, and designs for you to work with throughout, as well as the blank wide margins. Seriously these are a bullet journal persons bible, or just a very creative or note-takers Bible. Two covers designs - one a marble effect good and the other a lush watercolour floral design - both with two ribbon makers and elastic binder to hold them closed (or open where you are!). Really impressed by these editions which would make great gifts or personal treats. Like all books reviewed these can be obtained from your local Independent Christian Bookshop such as us at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market - please support independent Bookshops when making your purchases. https://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #book #books #bookshop #indiebookshop #christianbookshop #christianbooks #spirituality #faith #review #bible #creative #journalling #bulletjournal #BUJO #lincoln #lincolnshire Unicorn Tree Books Central Market, Sincil Street, Lincoln. Wow, this book, 'Clergy, Culture and Ministry' by Ian Tomlinson arrived across my desk at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market yesterday from @SCM_Press Now let me first confess I am not Clergy and so this book is not meant for me, and yet this book is incredibly insightful and interesting in helping me process how very hard it must be to be clergy with its constant expectations and role changes. In the 30 hours that have passed since this book arrived I have been devouring it! The insights work not only for clergy but for anyone with a complex occupation, or that works or engages closely with clergy. Tomlinson writes well and elucidates insightfully on the work of Wesley Carr so as to offer forward a strong work shedding light on the complexity and possibilities of being clergy in a world of competing expectations. A very good book and one many clergy may find helpful, but also one prospective clergy and ministers may like to consider too... As always this book and other good ones like it can be found in independent High street bookshop's like us here at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market, and I'd really encourage you to use them and buy your books from them so that they can survive and thrive in local communities. http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #book #books #bookshop #indiebookshop #christianbookshop #christianbooks #spirituality #faith #review #authors #publishers #buylocal #christian #theology #clergy #ministry #scmpress

Across my desk at Unicorn Tree Books in Lincoln Central Market came these delights... I have truly been immersing myself in some deep, delightful, reading and thinking! Starting with Scm Press, 'According to the Scriptures' by David Allen. Perfect lenten reading. well researched biblical studies at its best... digs into the use of OT scriptures in the NT and looks at why and how they were used, and how we should understand them not as we do now, but perhaps more appropriately as we did then. Then 'A Transforming Vision' Ed. By George Westhaver Some amazing studies on the Trinity. Kallistos Ware offers a beautiful short look at the mystical theology of Trinity in the Eastern tradition. Jeremy Begbie's contribution on artistic, musical and God/Trinity space is wonderful in tone, as is the conclusion by Rowan Williams. A book that though deep is accessible reading. 'Raging with Compassion' by John Swinton. A wonderful contribution to the study of the Problem of Evil... A breadth deep and satisfying but more important is the fact Swinton does not try to answer the problem directly, rather he raises the problem and suggests we look towards the ways we can be transformed and overcome the problems rather than dwelling on the abstract unanswerable why's...this is not a cop out though, it's a real world reality and is approached with real insight. From Christian Alternative, 'Questioning the Incarnation' by Peter Shepherd. This is an intriguing, Possibly controversial study on how the explanation of the incarnation just won't work for today and how we need to focus on what is Divinity, and Jesus' very real Humanity, and truly rework a trinitarian understanding of the incarnation that is meaningful... And more importantly that is actually understood and understandable today. Well worth reading. 'Liturgical Worship' by Mark Earey from CHP is a revised & expanded edition basic introduction to what Liturgical Worship is... Key reading with questions. BRF's 'Faith in the Making' by Lyndall Bywater is a perfect book of devotional studies on Heroes of the Bible as listed in Hebrews 11. Perfect for group or solo reading. http://ift.tt/1TEBPlr #book #books
